In this very important tutorial, I discuss social signals and engagement signals which are used in almost all search engines. Many people associate search marketing with Google SEO. But if you think about it, many other large sites have very large search components. For example, YouTube is a big search engine, the mobile app stores are search engines. Yelp and other big sites are also search engines.
Search engines use social signals and engagement signals as big determining factors in their search algorithm to help them rank different apps.
Social signals are things like likes or up-votes. Social signals are also comments that your users leave on your content. Another social signal is the frequency with which people like, comment and share your comment.
Engagement signals are things like how many people are coming to your content, and how long they are engaging with your content. For example, if a YouTube video gets watched for a longer amount of time, that is a positive engagement signal. This engagement signal is especially positive if competitive videos are watched for a lower amount of time on average.
As you improve your product or content, keep a very close eye on engagement signals and social signals. These will be a part of your marketing because the better your engagement and social signals are, the better your product or content will rank.
